BOEING FIELD’S AIRPLANE HANGER EXPANSION

Quad 7 - Seattle, WA

In January 2012, Team Nelson began the sitework on five new airplane hangers at Boeing Field in Seattle, Washington. This project consisted of demolition and removal of existing tarmac, excavation and export of roughly 50,000 cubic yards of excess soil, excavation and backfill of footings for the large hangar buildings, and import of roughly 47,000 ton of select import material. During the excavation process, the team not only managed erosion control to levels not required on standard commercial sites, but they were also able to export up to 3,500 TCY of material per day.

Due to Boeing Field’s massive cast-in-place storm water detention vaults, Team Nelson installed a rarely used slide rail shoring system to prevent the collapse of the trench walls. They also installed a new Storm System that was comprised of 76 catch basins and roughly 10,000 linear feet of pipe.

Team Nelson completed the job with new sewer and water system attributes including 28 sewer manholes, roughly 3,200 lineal feet of sewer main and 4350 lineal feet of ductile iron water main.
